[Series of YouTubes] Snowpocalypse vs. Global Warming?

This is a spectacular video clip by Rachel Maddow. Despite the fact that this has been a record-breaking winter here in Washington, DC, Rachel easily disassembles the ridiculous argument that global warming can’t be real because we had snow. Then she brings on Bill Nye (yay!) who takes it a step further by explaining how the snowpocalypse was caused by El Niño conditions in the Pacific Ocean, and that El Niño is actually caused by–you guessed it–warming oceans.

So enjoy this video as much as I did. And if you like basketball, you’ll probably also enjoy this one.

What do a German campaign billboard ad, Russian dogs, flying chanting rabbis, a ram’s horn, and a jug band of Catholic priests have to do with each other? Well they’re all part of this “Tip of the Hat/Wag of the Finger” segment from last night’s The Colbert Report. Throw in the fact that Colbert messes up on more than one occasion, which is always hilarious.

[Series of YouTubes] Pat Metheny – Follow Me

Thanks to my friend (and podcast co-host) David Lewis for linking me to this awesome song. It’s so rich with sound, expression, and contrast, and that’s the YouTube version! I look forward to getting this thing on iTunes as soon as I get some more iTunes credit handy. Be sure to tune in to the HQ version for the best sound from this song.

And as a sidenote, I’d love to know what the Railroad Crossing lights are for. :P

[Series of YouTubes] We Ain’t Got the Do Re Mi

This is a very cute and funny video made by students in South Pasadena, California. A play on a Woody Guthrie song, it’s a very great way to send the message about the proposed devastating cuts to public education here in California. Awesome job to whatever students put this together.

YouTube Grab: The Remember Song

My first YouTube Grab of 2009 and the last one that I will ever have on this blog. Mostly to remind myself that I’m going to be getting a full-blown blog post on here very soon, at least I plan to…

By the way, if you haven’t seen my recent announcement, since I’ve only mentioned it on Twitter, you might want to take a look. ;)

YouTube Grab: Santa on Whose Line

As this always-grueling commercialism part of the Christmas season comes to a close, perhaps we could all benefit from some laughs as we move ahead to Christmas Day tomorrow. That said, here’s two hilarious clips from the old show Whose Line is it Anyway? making fun at Santa Claus. Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!

Video Grab: Arianna Huffington on Blogging

Very interesting Daily Show interview here which featured Arianna Huffington (of The Huffington Post) who talked about one of my favorite topics: blogging. She describes blogging just like it is–and Jon Stewart just refuses to “get” it. Nevertheless, I’m going to probably give her new book a try and see if it offers any useful morsels of good blogging information. Nevertheless, it’s good to see people like her spreading the word about what it really means to be a blogger and about just blogging her passion.

And for the record, no, I didn’t know that nine out of ten Italian cheeses are fake. Then again, I didn’t know there was such a thing as Italian cheese. Boy, I’m out of the loop. I guess it’s all in the curds. (Ooh, bad pun!)

Video Grab: Colbert Platinum Christmas Gifts Edition

With Monday’s announcement that we are now officially in a recession (wow, I had absolutely no idea after all of the crazy events of the past 2-3 months), you’d think that most people would be trying to pinch pennies this holiday season. Ah, but that rule doesn’t apply to the super-rich, as Stephen Colbert sarcastically points out in his latest edition of his Colbert Platinum segment.

Video Grab: Produce Pete on Thanksgiving

Another retro Daily Show clip to share with you on this Happy Thanksgiving. (Isn’t it amazing, I’ve successfully abstained from mentioning the singing turkeys! Err, um, oops…)

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and enjoy your last day of peace before the craziness of the commercial Christmas shopping season starts!

Video Grab: Stephen Colbert’s First Trick-or-Treat

This is one of my favorite “retro” videos from The Daily Show, which aired eight years ago, in 2000, five years before Stephen Colbert got his own program (and a few years before Steve Carell became a big TV/movie star). He does some hilarious acting in this skitch which is just classic and the perfect complement to any Halloween weekend.
